SPECIAL EVENTS

Youth Nights:
Normally the last Friday of each month. 6:30-9:30 p.m. Join in on the FUN. We have hip tunes for you to dance to, the Climbing Wall, trampoline and swimming. All for you to choose from. Now we have canteen facilities! Don't miss out on what your friends are doing!

Family Fun Day:
Bring the whole family and enjoy an Easter craft, swimming, the Climbing Wall, gym activities, trampoline and a whole lot more.
Sunday, April 4 2:00-4:00 p.m. $2.00/person.

March Break Camp:
No need to go south this Spring Break. We have all the the hot FUN here at the Y. There are a variety of camps to choose from:

Each camp is available 7:30 am to 5:30 pm and available for 5* to 12 year olds (*must be in Kindergarten), All camps host crafts, sports, gym activities, swimming, rock wall climbing and lasting friendships.


BIRTHDAY PARTIES

PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS

Parent N' Tot Rock N' Roll:
A pre-gymnastics program that will allow your child to become familiar with various pieces of equipment in a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Swim & Gym:
Enjoy some structured and free play games in the gym and then dip in the heated pool for some wet and wild fun.

Tiny Tunes:
Children will develop musical awareness through listening, singing, moving and playing instruments.

KinderGym:
Your preschooler will have fun and build their coordination and confidence through gross motor games, parachute, action songs and trampoline.

Lil' Dragons:
A self-defense program for 4-6 year olds. Learn the basics of the Jujitsu style of Martial Arts. Develops confidence and respect.


YOUTH PROGRAMS

Take A Break Family Room:
A safe and fun place to spend time while waiting for the next class. Games, puzzles, coloring and friendships are available here.

Kids in the Kitchen:
One of the most popular programs for many years at the Y. We teach young chefs basic cooking skills, orient them to the kitchen and provide practical cooking experiences. Best of all, everyone gets sampling at the end of class.

Arts N' Crafts:
Another very popular program. Children will explore the different materials and take home a new creation every week. Many of the crafts are centered around special occasions and holidays.

Racquetball:
Designed to promote friendships, fun and fitness. This program introduces youth to the basic skills of racquetball. For the beginner or slightly skill, we have a level for you.

Self Defense:
This ancient and traditional sport combines discipline, strength, coordination and concentration. Balance, flexibility, endurance and most of all FUN are all part of this program.

Youth Boxing:
This is a NON-CONTACT program that will introduce the movements and terms of boxing in a safe environment. It is full of fitness.

Sports Galore:
We have it all. Just about every week is something different. Fun, fitness and basic fundamentals are the key elements.

Gymnastics:
One of our longest standing programs that dates back over 100 years. This progressive instruction is based on the CANGYM and the YM-YWCA principles. Progression is based on attendance and skill development. Progress reports are given each term. (Note: it is not uncommon for a participant to be in the same level for several terms. There are a lot of elements to master).

Trampoline:
Have fun, learn basic skills, become more familiar and confident in this introductory course to the trampoline.

Tumbling:
Come out and practice your cartwheels, round-offs and back handsprings. This program is offered to beginners and those with experience.

Demo Gymnastics Team:
This team is designed to help youth develop self-esteem and confidence through gymnastics. They will learn floor routines and participate in demonstrations throughout the year.

Hip Hop:
Learn all the moves in this new funky dance program. Available to both members and non-members.

Cheerleading:
Designed for beginners and experienced cheerleaders, this program will focus on basic cheerleading skills in a fun, non-competitive way.

Climb the Wall:Learn the basics of rock wall climbing, bouldering and safety on our overhanging wall.

Youth Basketball:
Learn the basic skills and drills of the sport and enjoy a game with your friends.

Badminton:
Enjoy the fun of recreational badminton with some basic instruction.

Ball Hockey:
Youth will develop their skills and play a game while getting the benefit of exercise and teamwork in this fast paced sport.

Indoor Soccer:
A recreational program for players of any level. Youth will learn the basic skills of the game while learning the importance of teamwork and sportsmanship.

TEEN PROGRAMS

Leader Corps:
This program is rich in tradition in the Y for many years. It is open to those who are serious about participating in a leadership development program. Leaders volunteer with Y programs and community projects as well as participate in social programs.

Baby-sitting Course:
Designed by the Canadian Red Cross, this course offers those potential babysitters the necessary skills for what to do in emergencies, safety practices, first-aid, feeding and diapering, as well as basic baby-sitting activities.

Teen Girls Volleyball:
Teen girls will develop their skills and play a game in a non-competitive environment. This course is designed for players of all levels. A great way to keep you in shape for the volleyball season.

Drop-In Basketball:
We have set some time aside just for some pickup play. Get your friends together and enjoy some hoops.

Teen Weight Training:
Learn how to use strength and resistance equipment properly is critical for young developing teens. Our 5-week program educates teens about what muscles are being develop during each exercise, proper weight room etiquette and putting a program together. Once graduated, teens can use the equipment on their own.

Advanced Teen Weight Training:
As a continuation of the Teen Weight Training program, this 5-week program introduces teens to free weights and other resistance equipment that can enhance their developing bodies. Pre-requisite: Teen Weight Training

Climb the Wall:
This 3-week program introduces young climbers to the indoor Climbing Wall. Bouldering, belaying, teamwork and physical fitness are all components of this exciting program.

Jujitsu:
This ancient Martial art has been popular since it began at the Y. Learn the art, discipline, fitness and cooperation.


RAINBOWS FOR ALL CHILDREN

This peer support group program helps children who are dealing with divorce, separation, death and/or some painful transition in the family.
With over 375 participants in over 28 schools within the Greater Saint John area, the Rainbows program is one the most important family programs the Y has to offer.
All facilitators are trained volunteers (over 60 of them) and we have a certified Rainbows Coordinator.
Most of the this program is available through foundations and corporate support. Mindcare NB, Protestant Orphanage Foundation and others have supported this community based program.
