Celebrating its 20th anniversary, YMCA-YWCA Settlement Services is a leading community organization that welcomes immigrants to the Greater Saint John region.
The YMCA-YWCA provides a wide range of support services to immigrants, including life skills training, counselling, language classes, computer literacy, refugee resettlement and more.
Settlement Counselling & Referral Services
A team of multilingual settlement counselors provide newcomers with information and orientation, needs assessments, and referrals within the Saint John community. A professional Case Manager is available to provide support to newcomers who encounter emotional challenges in their transition into Canadian culture.
Canadian Culture and Life Skills Orientation
Settlement Services provides cultural orientation and life skills support to help newcomers better understand and adjust to their new surroundings in Canada.
Community Outreach
- Navigating the Canadian education system: a School Liaison Worker introduces newcomers to Canadian education and assists with navigation of the school system in New Brunswick, as well as providing cultural sensitivity training to teachers and administrators within the public school system.
- English Conversation Clubs: Settlement Services offers evening conversation clubs for newcomers to Canada
- Volunteer Opportunities at Settlement Services: The Community Connections Program helps connect new immigrants with local residents and community organizations in Saint John.
Volunteers have the opportunity to:
- Become a mentor to a newcomer or new family
- Become a language tutor
- Become a conversation buddy Join the volunteer welcome team for new families
Resettlement Assistance Program
The Resettlement Assistance Program at Settlement Services provides a wide range of essential services to Government Assisted Refugees to Saint John, New Brunswick. This Program offers services such as airport pick-up, temporary and permanent accommodations and an introduction to Canadian banking, shopping, education, legal system and much more.
