Language Instruction for New Canadians
| L.I.N.C. is a program designed to give newcomers to Canada basic language training and orientation to get some insight into the cultural differences new immigrants may face. | |
![]() |
L.I.N.C. classes are offered in four levels, starting with beginners at Level 1 and progressing through to level 4 for advanced students. The levels are set up to teach some language skills which can help the student to: communicate more effectively with teachers, doctors, hospital workers, merchants, etc. and to enable participants to be more self-sufficient in their community |
| The L.I.N.C. program is a continuous intake program. Newcomers can register at Employment and Immigration offices and start at any time. |

Host
Program
This program facilitates friendships between Newcomers
to Canada and volunteers from the greater Saint John area. These friendships
provide newcomers with chance to practice English and receive support in adapting
to their new community. This is a unique opportunity for cross-cultural sharing.
Interested volunteers are interviewed by the HOST coordinator who will help
match them with a newcomer. Volunteers try to spend a minimum of one hour
a week with their new friend.
