Community Settlement Services New Brunswick Employment Language Training

New Brunswick Employment Language Training

The New Brunswick Employment Language Training (NBELT) Program at Saint John Y Settlement Services is a 14-week intensive employment preparation course for permanent residents who are looking to improve their employability skills and English language ability. The Program offers a broad range of employment related training, including resume writing, business writing, building an e-portfolio, job searching, interview skills, and Fist Aid.

NBELT participants are immersed in norms of Canadian workplace culture and soft skills are developed to help participants transition into the Canadian workforce. In addition to classroom training, community engagement is a strong component of the NBELT Program with opportunities for participants to expand their Canadian work experience through volunteerism and job shadowing with local businesses.

Past NBELT participants have come from diverse professional backgrounds, such as engineering, nursing and health care, law, business, office administration, skilled laborers, IT, retail/customer service/travel and so on.

Eligible participants must possess:

  • working knowledge of the English language
  • professional work experience
  • some post-secondary education
  • desire to work in the province of New Brunswick

To learn more about the NBELT Program, or to apply for the upcoming NBELT Program, please contact Settlement Services at (506) 634-4860.

Employers of NBELT graduates include the Saint John Y, Irving Oil, Canada Post, Enterprise Saint John, NB Museum, Ispire and many more!

What is in it for my business and me?

The NBELT team is looking for interested employers to help enhance our client’s work experience. Would you be interested in hosting a two week job shadowing placement? After the job shadow we look at placing the participant in a job with your company for up 8 weeks, funded by the NB Workability grant program. We suggest that a mentor/supervisor is available in your workplace to help the new employee which we have found greatly improves the success of a placement.
