Day and Residential Camping at the Saint John YMCA-YWCA

We have had another very successful camping year with over 1000 youth and children attending our variety of Day Camps at sites across the Greater Saint John area and our very beautiful residential camping site - Camp Glenburn.  Youth participated in swimming, canoe and kayaking, hiking, outdoor games, day and overnight camping trips, arts, craft and drama - and made memories to last a lifetime.

Applications for 2009 camping season will be available in the spring of 2009.  Check this web page to download the brochure and information packages.  Camp Councelors and CIT Positions will be posted in the Employment Section starting early spring.

Strong Kids Campership Fund - due to the generous donation from individuals, businesses and families in our community we are able to send EVERYONE to camp regardless of their economic circumstances. If you feel you cannot afford the full published fee then complete a Campership application form and we will contact you for an interview.

CAMP GLENBURN-Summer Programs

The Glenburn summer camp program emphasizes fun, adventure, creativity, cooperation, friendships, learning and imagination. Residential campers live in cabins of 8-10 campers with 2 counselors. Our 6-day "Discoverers" program provides an excellent introduction for the first time camper or those younger campers who may be a little nervous about leaving home. The 13 day "Explorers" program is designed to provide a more challenging opportunity for campers as they become older or more comfortable in the residential camp setting.

Interest Groups
Campers are able to sign-up individually for lessons and skill development in canoeing, kayaking, swimming, drama, earth education, Glenburn Outdoor Living Skills (GOLS), high and low ropes, arts and crafts, climbing and dance.

Out-trips

All campers will have the opportunity to enjoy an overnight out-trip. "Discoverers" campers are introduced to out-tripping with a short hike, paddle or, for our younger campers, a sleep-out on camp property. "Explorers" campers travel further with trips ranging from 24 to 48 hours.

Cabin Activities
Making decisions, respecting each other, and learning together are important to the Glenburn experience. Hikes, cook-outs, crafts, beach volleyball and the high ropes are just some of the favourite Cabin Activities.

All Camp Activities
All camp activities are an opportunity for the entire camp to get together for exciting games like "Capture the Flag", or to spend a quiet moment by the Bay at a Campfire.

Contact the Camp Glenburn office by phoning (506) 646-2104 or fax (506) 634-0783.

From June 1 - August 31 the office will be located on site and we can be reached at (506) 832-5632 or by faxing (506) 832-0907.

SUMMER DAY CAMPS

Our camps are tailored for the inexperienced to the experienced camper with programs as unique as the campers themselves. Camp staff are dedicated to a quality camp program that fosters an environment of learning and development for all youth. Underlying is all of the fun, adventure and excitement, strong tradition of sharing, cooperation and fellowship.

Day Camps 2009 at the 'Y' will offer the children an opportunity to swim, special theme days and to participate in tradition day camping songs and games. This year we have added some great new locations: Uptown at the Prince Charles school with access to the Saint John High School pool; Forest Glenn Community Centre for our Integrated Day Camp; Glenn Carpenter Centre for some great new experiences with overnight camping, archery and water activities and for the Valley residents, Gondola Point Recreation Centre has some great specialty camps this summer.

Your child will be guided on a daily journey involving exciting and educational outdoor adventures and discoveries with the help of qualified leaders and other new found friends. Day camping has a rich history and is fun-filled with every consideration to meet your child's needs. The youth explore crafts, games, and special themes all in an outdoor setting.

We will be offering Day Camp programs in 2009 at:

  • Prince Edward Square
  • Millidgeville Community Centre
  • Glenn Carpenter Centre
  • Forest Hills Community Centre
  • Quispamsis Recreation Centre
  • West Side - Church of the Good Shepherd

In the Spring of 2009 a full brochure on all camps will be available on-line, at the Welcome Desk at Prince Edward Square or e-mail youth@saintjohny.com  or glenburn@saintjohny.com and we would glad to send you one in the mail.
